About Somatic Experiencing®

Somatic Experiencing® is a holistic practice that focuses on establishing a strong and healthy connection with the body in order to help resolve trauma and stress. First proposed by Dr. Peter Levine, Somatic Experiencing® takes techniques and theories from psychology, physiology, biology and more, and implements them into one holistic approach. Somatic Experiencing® is practiced around the world, and involves different techniques including body massage, yoga, breathwork, acupuncture and more to help build a strong mind-body connection.

Somatic Experiencing® is a wonderful healing technique for people who deal with trauma, chronic pain, anxiety and more. SE® methods are built upon the idea that the body has an engrained response to trauma and stress stemming from early childhood development. Though those traumatic events have in most cases already passed, the body still sees present threats and responds how it had learned to respond in childhood. Thus, in Somatic Experiencing®, we call attention to physical sensations in order to better understand the body’s response to stress. Somatic Experiencing® can help anyone better understand their stress response, and is a great technique for those looking to build a better relationship with their body and mind.
